Duckspool in
India
Photographing the
Social Landscape with
contributions from Raghu Rai, Magnum. The Workshop
Itinerary New information will appear here on
a regular basis, especially if you tell us you are interested! The
historical city of Delhi
provides the home-base for this exciting three week workshop; places we plan
to visit are Dharamsala (home of the Dalai Lama in the
Himalayan foothills), Khajurao (site of India's love temples)
and Agra (home to the Taj Mahal and near to
the ruined city of Fatehpur Sikri). Why Delhi? -
The capital of India, a city with a visible 3,000 year old heritage, last
home of the Raj!, The Lotus temple, The Red Fort, Qutb Minar, Modern
shopaholics paradise!, acres of Lutyens designed parks and buildings, amazing
concert halls, museums and art galleries and, of course, access to the most
interesting sights imaginable. We shall have
a 3 day workshop with Raghu
Rai, India's most distinguished photographer and Magnum associate who
has done large format books on the places we shall be visiting. Technical,
and not a little aesthetic guidance will be provided by Duckspool's own Peter
Goldfield who will be on hand to give workshop participants advice
and will also teach. You will have the freedom to photograph what you
want. This is not a
tourist trip to India but you will see many major sites of interest as well
as another side to a country that most tourists never get a chance to
see. Travel is one of Photography’s most popular pursuits yet
most of the images are stereo-typed revealing ambience but seldom atmosphere!
The workshop will focus on making meaningful
images rather than repetitive record shots. Duckspool aims to care for everyone but please arrange
your own Travel Insurance. We CANNOT accept anyone without their own insurance,
which must also include medical expenses. The information given here cannot
encompass everything you may need to know so a guidebook to
India would help! At this time of year no
inoculations are necessary, malaria tablets should be taken though are not
essential. More info at Colonial Office
