Raghu Rai
A Magnum photographer since 1977, was born in what is now Pakistan but moved to India with Partition; he is internationally recognised as India's most distinguished photographer

He started working as a photographer in the 1960’s thanks largely to the support of his elder brother. Success came early when a snap was published in an English newspaper and Raghu has worked as a photographer ever since for The Hindustan Times, The Statesman and India Today. His work has also appeared in international publications such as Time, The New York Times, Paris Match, National Geographic, Geo and others.

For the last 30 years, he has been exhibiting internationally in major cities throughout the world and has won Nikon Photo Awards numerous times. Twenty-five of his photographs are in the permanent collection of the Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris while India has honoured him with the Padmashree, one of the country’s highest civilian awards; he has also been on the jury for World Peace Photo on a number of occasions.

He has produced a dozen or so large format photographic books about India. He has recently had a retrospective exhibition in Tokyo - due to tour!

Some of his colour work will be on show in London at Photofusion during January 2002.

About Raghu's Workshop

Raghu’s workshop will run for three days from Friday 3’rd January to Sunday 5’th January. This will be your chance to work with one of the modern masters of photography in the Indian environment and get a taste of what its’ about!

We plan to visit the Lotus Temple, a centre for the Baha’i faith; Raghu has done a book on this temple called “Forever in Bloom”. As a building, it is one of Delhi’s modern monuments!
