Martin is producing some of the most exciting work at
present in British social documentary photography. A photographer of international repute,
his work is in collections from Liverpool to Malibu, The Bank of Finland and The Seagrams
Collection in New York. His publications and exhibitions range from the b&w Home Sweet
Home (1974) and Bad Weather (1982), to The Last Resort (1986) and The Cost of Living
(1991), colour essays on the British. Recipients of numerous awards, Martin lectures
widely and is a member of Magnum. In 1992 he was consultant and stills photographer on the
television series Signs of the Times which also became a best selling book. !994 saw the
follow up of Signs of the Times, with From A to B, on the British and their cars, with 25
simultaneous exhibitions and a BBC Enterprises book. 1995 Produced Home and Abroad a study
of the world at play. Small World was published in 1996. Books since 1996

Workshop history:
A workshop exploring the workings of close contact
photography, working in the field with one of the worlds most well known
"people" photographers'. Martin's commitments means that he is busy most
weekends, so that this special workshop may be his last for some time!
