Martyn Greenhalgh worked with Thomas Joshua
Cooper at Glasgow School of Art and has an M.A. in Photo Studies from the
University of Derby. But Martyn’s experience goes far outside the academic -
from lake warden and guide, to seamanship and navigation instructor.
He has exhibited widely since 1984 and has
worked with the amazing Ian Hamilton Finlay, producing beautiful books such as Poet
of the Woodland and The Garden on the Hill and compilations such as Prints
1963-1997. An excellent communicator he has held workshops on subjects from
‘Landscape’ to ‘Palladium printing’ or ‘The Fine Print’ to ‘Photography
in a Day’! Martyn’s work has been collected by the City Arts Centre,
Edinburgh and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Aqua Vitae, work on the
theme of water, was commissioned by the Scottish Arts Council and is currently
touring Britain. There is a growing appreciation of his work in France. He is
currently Head of Photography at Oxfordshire School of Art and Design.
Workshop History
A practical workshop exploring
platinum:palladium, cyanotypes and gum bichromate printing.
All the practical aspects of platinum/palladium
printing using new techniques developed jointly by Martyn, Pradip Malde and Mike
Ware. You will be shown how to use the simple equipment necessary, and how to
obtain or make it. Working with Martyn prints will be made from material taken
on the workshop or negatives you bring with you. Other "alternative"
processes, such as salted paper prints, gum bichromates and cyanotypes will be
covered.
