From the NORTH, EAST and SOUTH EAST
About 150 miles South West of London - around 3 hours via M4/5 - traffic allowing!
From the deep South you might consider the A303 but it can be slow.
Take junction 23 off M5 or follow signs to BRIDGWATER
A1. At first ROUNDABOUT take first exit, A38 right
into BRIDGWATER
A2. In 3 miles, at next roundabout, take 2nd exit, to TAUNTON, EXETER, MINEHEAD
A3. Forward 3/4 mile, through 2-3 traffic lights, or mini or big roundabouts, over
river,- depends what the town planners have done recently! - anyway briefly join A39 to
MINEHEAD, while A38 goes left to Taunton, then past Morrisons and Rugby Club
At first set of TRAFFIC LIGHTS on the A39, (except for those to Safeways) TURN LEFT signposted DURLEIGH & SPAXTON
A4. Head out through Bridgwater suburbia to to where road narrows.
Take the NEXT LEFT to BISHOPS LYDEARD, TAUNTON, GOATHURST & ENMORE. A separate sign
directs to ENMORE GOLF COURSE. DO NOT GO STRAIGHT ON HERE!
A5. Forward up into The Quantocks bearing right after the waterworks - keep
climbing for about 5 miles (about 15 minutes). Lots of 40, 30 and 20 mph
signs - careful! Signs to BISHOPS LYDEARD. DO NOT follow
signs to BROOMFIELD yet, you'll get lost!. Pass ENMORE INN, GOLF COURSE and TYNTE ARMS.
About 2 miles from Tynte Arms the road narrows at the top of the hill, between hedges.
TURN VERY SHARP LEFT virtually doubling back on yourself, a narrow lane signposted to
BROOMFIELD, GOATHURST & NORTH PETHERTON
A6. In 1/2 mile, just past FARM on left, take first RIGHT into UNSIGNPOSTED lane
A7. DUCKSPOOL is 1/4 mile on right, take FIRST entrance by white building into
courtyard
We never use the front door - come round the other side to
the back porch
If you miss the very sharp left turn above, after 1/4 mile our local pub, the
TRAVELERS REST will beckon you! You have 3 choices: pop in (lemonade only) and ask Dave
the landlord where you are!, perhaps turn round then FIRST RIGHT and FIRST RIGHT again
into our lane OR
A8. Carry on another 1/4 mile. Take FIRST LEFT to
BROOMFIELD, NORTH PETHERTON and FYNE COURT at (hazardous) staggered five way crossroads by
the PINES CAFE & GIFT SHOP
A9. In 1 mile is a TELEPHONE BOX (now modern but usually very bright) IMMEDIATELY
TURN LEFT, into our unsignposted lane. If a couple of CREAM COLOURED COTTAGES appear on
the left, turn back - you've missed the lane!
A10. DUCKSPOOL is 1/2 mile on left. Take SECOND entrance, by white building, into
courtyard
From the SOUTH WEST
Take junction 25 off M5 or follow signs to TAUNTON
B1. Follow signs to BARNSTAPLE (A358) & KINGSTON,
if lost head for TRAIN STATION
B2. Carefully follow signs OUT OF TOWN (to North) to KINGSTON ( KINGSTON St. MARY,
but it won't fit on signs)
B3. Go 2 miles to KINGSTON St. MARY. After 1/2 mile pass our local GARAGE on left,
then OLD BAKERY Immediately TURN RIGHT opposite THE SHOP & POST OFFICE into LODES LANE
(named but unsignposted except for direction to DOG SANCTUARY)
B4. In 1 mile up very steep hill TURN LEFT at T junction
B5. In 1/2 mile take SECOND, (unsignposted), hidden RIGHT TURN (NOT first,
signposted to Broomfield Church) into our lane. This is JUST after a pair of CREAM
COLOURED COTTAGES. If the TELEPHONE BOX appears on your left you've gone 10 yds. too far -
turn back!
B6. DUCKSPOOL is 1/2 mile on left. Take SECOND entrance, by white building, into
courtyard
If you miss LODES LANE go on 2 miles, taking sharp right
curve round SWAN INN to top of beautiful Buncombe hill
B7. At staggered, hazardous, 5 way crossroads by PINES
CAFE & GIFT SHOP, TURN SHARP RIGHT to BROOMFIELD, NORTH PETHERTON & FYNE COURT
B8. Carry on from No. A9 above
From the WEST
C1. From A358 go to BISHOPS LYDEARD
C2. Follow signs to COTHELSTONE, ENMORE & BRIDGWATER. In 4 miles take
SECOND RIGHT to BROOMFIELD, NORTH PETHERTON & FYNE COURT, at hazardous, staggered 5
way crossroads by PINES CAFE & GIFT SHOP
C3. Carry on from No A9 above
TRAIN and COACH and PLANE
Intercity trains are direct from Scotland, the
Midlands and South Wales. London (Paddington) takes less than 2 hours.
National Express (from Victoria, London or Heathrow) and Berry's Coaches (very good and
cheap - from Hammersmith, London Tel. 01823-331356) both go to Taunton
Duckspool is just over 5 miles from Taunton, mainly uphill. A taxi costs £6-7
30 minutes from Bristol and Exeter Airports
